Turning 39 today feels like an incredible blessing. Reflecting on this journey, I’m struck by how life has unfolded—from the uncertainties of youth to the moments that shaped me into who I am today. If I could share advice with my younger self, it would be to keep evolving, stay curious, and never stop learning and dreaming. Life is full of highs and lows, and embracing the entire ride—the wins, the setbacks, and everything in between—is where real growth happens. With that in mind, here are 39 pieces of advice I would give to my younger self.
- Don’t try to fit in – Finding yourself is the goal, and this entire life journey is about that.
- Create your value system – Define what you believe in, your standards, and your core values. This guiding compass will be monumental for your entire life.
- Life is an adventure. Make it awesome – Don’t be a passenger; be the driver.
- “Why me?” vs. “Why not me?” and “I get to do this” vs. “I have to do this” – Understand the impact of those words. Rich people think differently.
- Learning the power of connecting the mind, body, and spirit is essential. This “ultimate trifecta effect” will transform your life.
- Nothing will be handed to you – Be proud of your work ethic. Outwork everyone. Talent can only take you so far.
- Understand sacrifice – You’re ambitious, and to achieve your goals, you’ll need to make sacrifices. Learn what’s worth it.
- Embrace “I don’t know” – It’s okay to admit it. Ask questions and learn from those willing to explain.
- Understand the importance of failure – Failure is inevitable, and it will hurt a lot! Get back up. You’ve got one more in you.
- Learn to understand financials – Numbers are integral in life and business. Understand the game of numbers.
- Learn to say no – Opportunities will come, but knowing which ones aren’t right for you is just as important.
- Don't use material stuff to build confidence — Real confidence comes from doing the work.
- Love – Understand what love means to you and learn to love yourself. Love is the most impactful medicine in the world.
- Make decisions with time and space – Give yourself room to think; good decisions often take patience.
- Learn the importance of nutrition – Think of food as fuel; it will energize you.
- Keep training hard – Physical training is essential. Keep pushing your limits; this is lifelong.
- Understand the power of nature and being outdoors – Time in nature has a profound impact on mental health and will help you answer a lot of questions.
- Consistency and compounding – These two are key ingredients in success.
- Dreams do come true – But dreams are nothing without action. Dream it, then do it!
- Write daily – You’ll be amazed at what you learn.
- Travel – It will help you see the world from different points of view.
- Happiness isn’t a destination but a lifelong journey – When in doubt, keep showing up.
- Don’t worry people who wronged you – Karma will take care of that. What goes around comes around. Put out into the universe the positive energy.
- Once you admit that you truly know nothing, life’s real education begins.
- Nobody ever made history by playing it safe – Stay uncomfortable.
- Treat life as an adventure – On their deathbeds, people usually regret the things they didn’t do. Never give up on life.
- When a door closes, leave it closed – There’s always an open window just around the corner.
- Never chase anything – Let it come to you, and what is meant for you will never pass you by.
- Invest yourself only in those willing to invest in you – Toxic people and “takers” will drain your energy. Learn to identify energy vampires.
- You don’t have to be your absolute best every day – In fact, it’s impossible. But if you keep showing up and doing your best, chances are you will go very far.
- You can’t change anyone except yourself – Don’t even try.
- You’re awesome – Anyone who tells you otherwise is simply wrong.
- Trust your intuition instead of asking everyone around you what they think – You have more in you than you realize. Learn to trust yourself.
- Understand the power of words, communication, and expression – You can learn a lot about someone just through that. Use it wisely.
- Spend time alone – You will really get to know yourself, and it will give you all the answers you might be searching for.
- Life is all about choices and decisions – Where you are today is all because of that.
- Books have all the secrets you are looking for – Respect them, and you can find answers to most of your questions.
- Fear is not real – The only place fear can exist is in our thoughts about the future. It is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that may never exist. Do not misunderstand me; danger is very real, but fear is a choice.
- Talk to yourself with love, passion, care, and only positive words – You were created perfectly. There is nothing wrong with you. Everything you’re seeking is inside you.
As I celebrate turning 39, I took a moment to reflect on the experiences and lessons that have shaped my life so far. To mark this special day, I spent the evening stargazing at Sky’s the Limit Observatory—a truly magical experience I highly recommend! Thank you for being part of this journey. I hope these 39 pieces of advice resonate with you and inspire your own path. Have an awesome week ahead, and I’ll see you next week.
